We went to Iacanga where Lueli (my sister) and Edelson live. They have a two year old named Giovana. She's so cute, offers you whatever she's got, including her pacifier. I didn't really feel like going but couldn't see a way out of it and afterwards was very glad I hadn't missed it.
Nós fomos para Iacanga onde Lueli (minha irmã) e Edelson vivem. Eles têm um filho de dois anos chamado Giovana. Ela é tão fofa, oferece o que quer que tenha, incluindo a chupeta. Eu realmente não queria ir, mas não conseguia ver uma saída e depois fiquei muito feliz por não ter perdido.
At night we went to a "Dance of the 60 years" which was really a '50's themed dance. Funny stuff! One guy asked me where I was from. In this tiny little town I thought it would freak him out when I said "the United States" but he just replied, "So you're not from here." They played a lot of American music but Brazilian versions of "Yellow Polka-dot Bikini" and "Purple People Eater". Everyone did the twist dance to every song BUT "The Twist".
À noite, fomos a uma "Dança dos 60 anos", que era realmente uma dança temática dos anos 50. Coisas engraçadas! Um cara me perguntou de onde eu era. Nessa minúscula cidade, pensei que isso o deixaria mal quando eu disse "Estados Unidos", mas ele simplesmente respondeu: "Então você não é daqui". Eles tocaram muita música americana, mas versões brasileiras de "Yellow Polka-dot Bikini" e "Purple People Eater". Todos fizeram a dança de torção para cada música, EXCEPTO a torção.
Brazilians call flies, "mosquitos" and mosquitos are "long-legs". Manira's cousin asked her how mosquitos are called in the U.S. and she said, "flies". He said, "You have to call them? Here they come all by themselves."
Os brasileiros chamam moscas, "mosquitos" e mosquitos são "pernas longas". O primo de Manira perguntou-lhe como os mosquitos são chamados nos EUA e ela disse, "voa". Ele disse: "Você tem que chamá-los? Aqui eles vêm sozinhos".
