I think it was an added bonus that I got to be in a family in the middle of a wedding.  I saw lots of traditions that I wouldn't have seen otherwise.  The behind-the-scenes preparations were remarkable.  Hand-delivered invitations that were three times the size of an American wedding invitation.  I'd heard of a trousseau but never actually knew anyone who had 30 new outfits to wear after the wedding.  And a serious honeymoon - minimum one week.  (Even three years before my own wedding I already knew that it was common in the U.S. for newlyweds to just spend a weekend in a downtown hotel.)  Not to mention enough Bridal Tea and wedding gifts to entirely stock a new household.  The gifts arrived weeks before the wedding and were carefully displayed.  I also like that both men and women wore an "engagement band" which is a solid gold band on their right hand until the wedding and then they move it to their left hand.

Eu acho que foi um benefício adicional que eu estava em uma família no meio de um casamento. Eu vi muitas tradições que eu não teria visto de outra forma. As preparações foram notáveis. Convites entregues a mão que eram três vezes o tamanho de um convite de casamento americano. Eu tinha ouvido falar de um enxoval, mas nunca conheci ninguém que tivesse 30 roupas novas depois do casamento. E uma lua de mel significativa - mínimo uma semana. (Mesmo três anos antes do meu casamento, eu já sabia que era comum nos EUA para os recém-casados passarem apenas um fim de semana em um hotel do centro da cidade). Não mencionar presentes suficientes do chá nupcial e presentes de casamento para armazenar completamente uma nova casa. Os presentes chegaram semanas antes do casamento e foram cuidadosamente exibidos. Eu também gosto que homens e mulheres usassem uma "banda de noivado", que é uma banda de ouro sólida na mão direita até o casamento e depois o movem para a mão esquerda.
