I decided that, for an exchange student, the bathroom was the most important room in the house.  When I first arrived I discovered it was the one place in the house I could go where no one would try and offer me food or even talk to me.  At the beach I began to go to the bathroom instead of following people around and feeling like a puppy dog.  Like when I'd be sitting in a room with 20 people and then suddenly they were all gone.  I didn't want to follow them from room to room so I'd go to the bathroom and then stop in a different room afterwards.

Eu decidi que, para um estudante de intercâmbio, o banheiro era o quarto mais importante da casa. Quando cheguei pela primeira vez, descobri que era o único lugar na casa onde eu poderia ir, onde ninguém tentaria me oferecer comida ou até falar comigo. Na praia, comecei a ir ao banheiro em vez de seguir as pessoas ao redor e me sentir como um cachorrinho. Como quando eu estivesse sentado em uma sala com 20 pessoas e, de repente, eles já haviam desaparecido. Eu não queria segui-los de um quarto para outro, então eu irei ao banheiro e depois parei em um quarto diferente.
